[ often times there's not a lot to do. for a man like thor, it means wandering from one source of entertainment to the other, because if it's not battle it has a 50/50 chance of being found captivating enough to keep his attention for more than five minutes at a time. and that's what he's doing today, munching on a poptart with a box tucked under his arm, roaming through halls and past faces both familiar and foreign to find something to do.
and eventually, he may just be peering over your shoulder, looming all too close because what is personal space? ]
'lo. What is that?

[ it'd taken him a while to get used to battle. the first couple of times something in him had balked from the glory of battle, had turned away and screamed it was wrong, wrong wrong whenever he felled a foe. that the glory earned in victory was something not to be enjoyed, that there were better things to be done than hurt people.
it hadn't exactly taken long for that part of thor to fade away.
now he takes to battle with a righteous enthusiasm, voice booming over the sound of battle just as much as the peeling thunder that follows his presence in the skies above does. he dives right into the heart of the enemy with no hesitation, swinging his hammer and electrocuting others with lightning, letting out a laugh as he enjoys the challenge and the adrenaline coursing through him. his squad members are nearby, locked in their own battles, waging individual wars, and thor ignores their presence as he handles his own.
another enemy falls to the mud, and thor raises his hammer, shouts a taunt: ]
Who else dare challenge me?! I will take all those brave or foolish enough!

He hit the ground with a rough landing as expected, but he's forcing himself back up, trying to shake it off. Stumbling over to the other as he notices him, he offers a slight grin past the blood and the dirty. Adjusting the grip on his shield, he straightens up, looks to the numbers that are left.]
You gonna take them all, or are you saving some for us?

While I do not wish to take the pleasure of battle away from anyone - [ give him a sec to turn and smash a guy trying to sneak up on him. ] I will not hold back, either!
[ 'so keep up' is left unsaid, not that thor imagines any of them having trouble with that. ]
no subject
Right behind you. [ Bracing himself on his heels, he takes point where he is before he throws his shield at the nearest enemy, running up to take him down fully.] Any idea where these guys came from anyway?
[Totally calling out to the other over the chaos, yup.]
no subject
he hears the question, answers as he advances to the next target, voice carrying easily over the din: ] Your guess is as good as mine! They are quite numerous -
[ he's cut off by the grenade that lands at his feet, going off before he can react with a flash of light and a deafening, high-pitched whine. thor stumbles back with a hand over his eyes; disoriented by the temporary loss of his senses he strikes wildly, swinging to keep away enemies who aren't there, staying safely out of range and lifting their guns to open fire. a second grenade lands near steve, primed to go off in a few seconds. ]

Thor's voice booms over the area, and he doesn't even turn around as he grapples with a soldier, managing to throw him over his shoulder. There's something wrong though - the Norse agent's half-finished reply as him turn just in time to catch the sight of the grenade. Wide-eyed, he lifts his shield to block it, shuts his eyes tight and the sound rings in his head, while the flash doesn't exactly reach him.]
Thor! Are you okay?
[That's when the second grenade comes in, and Steve's barely opening his eyes are he hears it land so here's instinct working for him. He's bending down, picking up the grenade and flinging it off as quick as he can; it goes off midair and his vision's blurry now, but he's turning his waist, back to sending his shield off in some direction.
-which is hopefully toward the enemy. Flash grenades, bad. Right.
On the other side, the enemy scrambles to take position else they'll scramble like chickens without their heads. They're everywhere it seems, aiming with their rifles and firing as they please. Steve takes refuge behind a broken wall, eyes still scanning the area for the other. ]

the effects are already beginning to wear off, vision filtering back in through white spots, allowing him to duck into cover. his hearing is another story, ears still ringing and making everything sound muffled, distant. he doesn't move for the moment, focusing on his breathing and the weight of mjolnir in his hand, and once his vision's cleared he's looking for signs of the other. ] Steven!
[ with his hearing shot he's even louder than normal, and quick to duck down when he's fired upon again for giving up his position . ]
no subject
He spares a second to peering over the wall, but that's a lost cause because the bullets are flying past - he ducks back down, grimaces as the wall splits against him.
He hears Thor calling, takes in a breath because there's only a few people who've called him that, but he realizes their attention's split and his shield's right by Thor.
Only one shot at this. Breaking out from past the wall, he makes a dash for another spot, he scans the area for his shield, for Thor - then ducks again, picks up a rock. Curde, yeah, but he's throwing it at the scouts firing in Thor's direction.]
Right here! I'm fine, I'm good! [OKAY, not a smart plan, since they're firing at him now, but he's making a run for his shield, rolling and propping it up to protect himself.] We gotta slow 'em down, somehow...
no subject
he stands without fear of the gunfire, though he almost loses his balance from the lingering effects of the flashbang. he keeps his feet and throws mjolnir, hitting a soldier in the front and throwing him backwards into others, breaking the line with confusion. he looks down at steve while the forces recollect themselves amidst the confusion and grins. ]
I apologize, [ and he's trying not to be deafening, really, but it's hard to hear himself otherwise. ] but I am still disoriented from the last assault! I can provide a long-range distraction, but I would be no use to you in close quarters!
no subject
No, it's good - I can work with that! [His own ears are ringing but Thor's not helping with the recovery, so he rolls with it, nods barely at the idea as he makes a plan. Fixing his grip on his shield, he takes a glance out to the field, then makes a few motions for Thor, then himself.] You hit 'em high, and I'll get 'em low. Still got some lightning in you?
no subject
he turns, firing off a burst at the line. it jumps from soldier to soldier, taking advantage of the contact it can get before it finds the ground, either strong enough to have them reeling or knock them out entirely. thor keeps up the assault, doing his end of the plan, creating a diversion to give steve time to do what he needs to without suffering a hail of bullets in the process. he'll have to fetch mjolnir later, but for now this tactic holds more than its fair share of entertainment for the lightning commando. ]

Still, the response is comfort enough because that's trust he can put in the other, faith that he'll pull through and that they can do this, even if he's not quite sure how many more are left. The energy that builds at his hands is enough to restore that gleam in his eyes, get him to nod because that's a good and ready sign for him. If Thor can keep going, if the others can keep going, then heck, Steve's not ready to go down just yet. No breaks here, no sir.
Once Thor's up and working at his end, Steve's regaining his footing, straightening up and bounding past Thor so he can keep the line down long enough for the other to get going where he needs to go. Lining up his shield, he slams it into the face of a soldier trying to get up, spins on his heel to strike another and it's instinct that's moving him to take the guy at his side, shove him with the shield.
A brief glance over his shoulder to where Thor is, and then he ducks down, avoids gunfire whizzing over his head.]

when the firing starts again, thor's lips twist into an annoyed scowl as he moves into cover briefly, letting the assault pass him by. but he's quick to pop back out when the break comes, letting out a yell as he looses a more powerful blast of electricity at the source. he's more than annoyed with this group after messing up his senses, but more than that, despite his confidence and enhanced stamina he knows he can't keep this going forever - thor is literally his own generator, and if he pushes this lightning thing too much he's going to have to rely on someone else to get him home. it's happened more than a few times in the service, in the days when he'd first been getting used to his body, finding and pushing his new limits. he's not about to have that happen again if he can help it.
finishing quickly is ideal, as is getting his balance back so he can go back to close quarters with steve. he's always preferred swinging mjolnir anyway. ]
AND NOW with the proper journal!!
He ducks down in his movement and a dash of lightning soars over him, strikes the enemy a distance away. At times inbetween the fight, he looks behind him to nod a brief thanks to the other because it's due and it's needed. Otherwise his attention is at the ready, taking down who he can before he plans out the next point to attack. At the least, the numbers are wearing down and from what can be seen, there aren't any reinforcements coming - that, or they've already arrived.
Still, back to matters; they need a way to either take down the others, force a retreat. Something to end the battle because they're going to tire down, and even if they take down a hundred, who's not to say that they don't have another hundred waiting for them? His ears are ringing, and once Steve realizes that they've broken the line effectively to where they won't be pinned, he flings his shield in an odd direction, tackles a soldier to the ground and incapacitates him.
His eyes go back to look for Thor once he's back up.]
Thor?!
no subject
so he focuses on his own battle once more, attacking relentlessly. he doesn't know where the others are but they only have to hold out until the forces back off, and between the six of them - the six highly unusual rebels - it shouldn't take too much longer. his hopes prove correct when the enemy starts fleeing, either heeding some call or recognizing his and steve's strength. he doesn't know which it is, doesn't care much, because seeing their backs as they run away is the important part.
he grins, turns to clap steve on the shoulder, his hearing's mostly returned, so he's back to his normal volume. which is still rather loud, admittedly, but. ]
Ha, watch them run! They have finally learned they are no match for you and I!
no subject
I - we don't make that bad a team, huh? [Reaching over, he clasps Thor on his opposite shoulder, throws him a grin while he catches his breath. There's a pause and he looks around at the chaos, fixes the handle on his shield.] We should..
[Another breath in and he clears his throat, pats Thor once more before dropping his hand.]
C'mon, helping with clean-up will make it go a lot faster. Someone's gotta keep the place presentable, right?
no subject
he can't help the way his face falls at the mention of clean up, though, a short grumble passing under his breath as he moves his hand from steve's shoulders. with the institution there hadn't been any clean-up - thor had just destroyed things, got the objective done and headed back to base. clean-up was left to others. since joining the resistance he's gotten used to the notion, but it's still far from the top of his list of favorite post-battle activities. ]
Of course. [ he clips mjolnir to his belt. he observes the battlefield, frowning as he tries to decide where to start first. ] Shall I assist in clearing stray debris?
[ yeah, he's already pretty used to taking steve's orders. then again, he can't think of a single person more worthy to command him on the field of battle besides odin, and thor tries not to think of him. ]
no subject
Then he catches the change, stops a little and gets quiet as he waits for the full response. He can't say that it doesn't amuse him, but as soon as Thor asks if he should help, Steve stops turning over one of the fallen slabs of concrete, straightens up a little and thinks about it. ] If you don't want to, I won't force a broom in your hand or anything, really. It'd help, but you don't have to.
Not like I can call rank on you, or anything like that. [A tease and he smiles. He's pretty sure that a lot of the others won't be aiding in clean-up either, but that's their call. It's not as if there is a division in charge of this kind of thing, so he scratches his chin, thinks about it as he settles a hand on his hip.]
I wouldn't mind the company, though. You could talk to me while I gather some of the walls that got broken down. Sound good?
