[Who else is gonna do it?

The encounter with Soldier: 76 had left Genji with more to chew over than he'd expected. He'd gone in simply looking for a threat assessment and left with more questions than he'd arrived with. Who is Soldier: 76? What compels him to chase the truth of Overwatch's downfall like this? What exactly had happened to Overwatch?

For a long time, Genji hadn't thought much of Overwatch. He'd been coerced into joining in order to save his own life, had woken up in a body that hadn't felt like his own anymore and to the knowledge that he no longer had a home to go back to. He'd been nothing but anger and pain, so focused on himself and disinterested in making friends. It'd been a wonder that McCree, Mercy and Reinhardt had made any visible progress with him. But once Overwatch was gone gone, once Zenyatta had found him and helped him sort through the pain, he'd realized that perhaps it'd come to mean more to him than he'd realized. Too little too late.

Maybe it's this that compels him to do some digging himself. Curiosity or a sense of duty, it's difficult to tell which it is that motivates him. Perhaps the same thing that motivated him to chase 76 in the first place: he wants to do something for the people who had once tried so hard to help him, despite his refusal to let them. To repay them for their efforts. To help them, if they truly seek to bring Overwatch back from the ashes.

It's only inevitable that putting himself after the same goal as 76 will eventually lead him to crossing paths with the vigilante once more. He honestly hadn't intended to, at least not yet, yet here they are: Genji is still in the process of scouting the old base, this one with security detail, when chaos starts up below. Guards rallying, weapons going off. There's only one reason Genji can think of for it, and so he hops into the fray without hesitation, taking advantage of the distraction to pick the opposition off from the fringes.]
